Class Description:  The CCC and Tai Chi 4 L.I.F.E. Cooperative provides an opportunity to learn the basics of Tai Chi (the Yang Style 24 Form) as well as “the mother of Tai Chi” called Qigong. Qigong is defined as "energy refinement over time," and practicing Qigong helps us develop our receptiveness to both the energy within and the energy that exists around us.  In class we will practice both Tai Chi and Qigong to strengthen our bodies' ability to open and let "chi" (universal energy) flow and clear the bodies' meridian channels.  L.I.F.E. stands for Longevity, Increased balance and strength, Flexibility and Energy.  Students report feeling much better at the end of class as compared to the start.  Join the class to learn these ancient cleansing and energy enhancing arts, as they help remove obstacles to help you retain and maintain better health.

Health benefits of Tai Chi/Qigong practice:  Many studies, past and present, continue to show the health benefits of an ongoing Tai Chi/Qigong practice.  Below are listed a few benefits:

·      Increased flexibility, muscle, tendon, ligament and joint strength

·      Improved posture, alignment and balance

·      Integration of body, mind and spirit; aiding concentration

·      Improved circulation, blood pressure, and heart rate

·      Reduced stress/tension by improving relaxation

·      Ease pain by increasing energy flow

Class format: 1) Gentle shaking to release tension; 2) Warm-up with the slow, spiraling movements of Qigong, along with deep breaths, to promote balance and alignment; 3) Practice of Tai Chi Yang-style 24 forms; 4) Cool down with self-massage techniques and enjoy renewed energy.

Equipment:  Loose clothing is encouraged, a t-shirt and baggy pants; along with flat shoes, low-wedge sneakers or rubber-soled shoes.
